Real Science.   Real Time.   Real Learning.

Mrs. Renz was selected to join the JASON XV Project expedition team, traveling with the scientists and production team to the remote locations of Panama including Barro Colorado Island and the Smithsonian Tropical Research Institute in the middle of the Panama Canal Zone.  This opportunity allowed the student and teacher Argonauts joining Dr. Robert Ballard, world class scientists, and guest researchers at the expedition site.  Mrs. Renz was in Panama two weeks.  Her fourth graders  followed her journey each day as she updated her website with her daily journals and photos.

Mrs. Renz's Field Journal

Today was a slow day for me.  Our team was supposed to visit the ocelot latrine to see what the ocelots have been eating, but the current area they are using is on the far side of the island, too far for to hike there and back with the camera crew.  The crew took Argo Abbey and did the filming while Teacher Argo Kathy and I and Student Argo Lisa wrote journals for the TJO (Team JASON Online) website and edited student journals.  It would have been much more exciting to visit the ocelot area, but, that's the way it goes with science.  You have to be willing to adapt to change quickly.

It was still an awesome day in Panama.  Today was the coolest day so far and the boat ride back to Gamboa was very pleasant with the evening breeze and the gorgeous sunset over the Panama Canal.  It's still hard to believe I am in the tropical paradise!  Check back tomorrow tomorrow to read all about our visit to the Canopy Crane in Panama City.

The dining hall is on the upper floor of this building and

lower floors are where the JASON offices and media rooms were

located while we were at the STRI buildings on BCI.

There were 198 steps up to get to the Argo Hangout building.

There was a great view from up there.
