Field Trip Jan. 11, 2002 |
|
January 7, 2002
Dear Parents,
You have probably heard that the AttaBoy 300 Sled Dog Races are being held in Central Oregon right now. This premier Central Oregon event is designed to be spectator friendly, so we would like our students to be able to experience the excitement of this world-class sled dog race. This field trip will enhance our JASON Project studies about the Earth’s Polar Regions and habitats.
We will watch the 6th leg of the race this Friday, January 11 in LaPine near the Newberry Crater. The staggered start to the race is from 9:30 – 11:30 a.m. We will watch the mushers harness and prepare their teams for the race. After all dogs have left the starting line at 11:30 a.m., we will eat a sack lunch and after that, we’ll head back to school. The cost of this field trip is $2.00 per child, which will cover the cost of the school bus.
The bus will depart school at 7:30 a.m. We would like students to be at school at 7:15 a.m. so we can leave promptly at 7:30 a.m.
Students will need to dress for being outdoors for about four hours and should wear warm clothing: Coat, sweatshirt, hat, mittens or gloves, snow boots, snow pants or overalls, and two layers of socks. We cannot overstate the importance of your child dressing warmly so students will be able to have a good time.
Students should bring a backpack and a sack lunch. Drinks should be in non-glass containers. A water bottle with a tight fitting lid would be a good option for a drink.
We plan to arrive back at school by 2:00 p.m. We are in need of parent chaperones that already have the volunteer forms filled out with the school district. If you have received the “ok” from the school district and can chaperone, please indicate below that you can come this Friday. We’d love to have you!
