Mrs. Reekie Told Us About Pearl Harbor Day

As Fourth Grader in 1941

Dec. 11, 2001

Mrs. Reekie explained about sugar rationing.  Did you want sugar on your cereal or would you save if for a special occasion like making a birthday cake?

Note:  The green paper displays Mrs. Reekie's 4-H awards with the "V" for victory.  The war bonds she bought as a child are displayed above her 4-H awards.

There were only 48 stars on the flag when Pearl Harbor was bombed in 1941.  There were six rows x eight stars = 48 stars in all.  It's a multiplication problem!

Morse Code for the letter "V" is three dots and a dash.  It also stood for "Victory."

This is a "Blue Star Banner" sign families hung in their window in honor of their family members serving their country.  The star turned from blue to gold when a family member in the service died.
