Hello
to all you anxious, young researchers from Mrs. Renz’s 4th grade
classroom in Redmond, Oregon! I
understand you are attending the JASON Project web cast at OMSI in Portland,
Oregon on January 29th.
In
order to be very well informed about the Channel Islands, you will need to
become very informed about the JASON XIV Expedition! Are you ready to get started?
Here
are your directions for taking this virtual tour with me!
Please
meet me at the nearest airport United Airlines flies into on December 2 by 9:00
p.m. to begin our tour of the Channel Islands.
Respectfully yours,
Dr. Allison Nosilla J
Your Expedition Leader
Welcome! |
Step 1: Choose a name to call your JASON Team. Try to decide within 5 minutes, because we have a lot of work to do! |
Step 2: We need to locate the nearest airport so we can get to the Channel Islands. Go to this website: Channel Islands
National Park and see where we are going. In the search box, type in “Channel Islands” and print out one
map for your expedition team. (I like
the Digital of Channel Islands National Park map.) |
Step 3: We need to know if we can get to the Channel Islands in time and how much it will cost. Now go to the Orbitz
website to determine the flight information from Redmond, OR to the
nearest city to the Channel Islands that United Airlines flies into. |
Step 4: Conduct a
search for the dates of departure on Dec. 2, 2002 and a return on Jan. 28,
2003 for 4 adult passengers (that’s you) and no children. Choose a flight itinerary that satisfies
all the criteria for departure and arrival times. |
Step 5: Step 4: Go to the “S” Drive on our computer, and pull up the “Renzstudent: folder. Open up the JASON XIV Folder. Now open the JASON XIV Itinerary form and fill it out for your team on the computer. When the form is filled out, go to “File” and “Save As”. Put your team name as the file name. Print one copy for your team records. |
Step 6: Close the Orbitz window and go back to our classroom website to our JASON XIV page. Read what each “Story Expedition is about. Discuss the stories with our teammates and rank them by story number in the order you would like to research them. Make a list on a piece of paper and number your list from 1 (your first choice) to 6 (your last choice). |
Step 7: Take turns going to the JASON XIV web site and log in. See Dr. Nosilla for your special code name and password for this expedition! Type a well edited paragraph about your team, your progress thus far, and your feelings about our adventure. |
Step 8: Be ready for our “Team JASON” discussion on November 22nd at 2:10 p.m. to determine our next step in our adventure! |
