"What I had to do, I did the best I could." - Henri Matisse |
| Matisse, Henri (-Émile-Benoît) was born Dec. 31, 1869 in Le Cateau, Picardy, France. He died Nov. 3, 1954 in Nice, France. As an artist, Matisse was often regarded as the most important French painter of the 20th century. Matisse pursued the expressiveness of color throughout his career. When he was too weak to stand at his easel, he created paper cuts, carving in colored paper. He used scissors to sculpt the paper, and made collages out of them, sometimes into large pictures. During the lesson with Mrs. Reekie, students created "JAZZ", shapes which wiggle and dance. Enjoy! | ![]() |
