This is a pen pal project we did with our Indiana pen pals. Our students drew a picture of a monster, then described it in detail. We posed the descriptions to our website and our pen pals drew the monster we described. It's not as easy as you might think! Here are our descriptions to along with our picture our students drew posted next to their pen pal's picture. What do you think? How descriptive were our students? My monster’s name is Elisa. It has a square body. It is twins connected together. The twin on the left is made up of 12 boxes. The top row has 4 boxes and there are 3 rows in her body. She has two eyes that are black and they are ovals. Her nose is shaped like an “L”. She is smiling. She has an American flag on her head. It has one hand on the left and the twin on the right has one hand on the right. The twin on the right is exactly like the twin on the left. The twin on the left has one leg and the twin on the right has one leg. They feet have an ankle bracelet on it. The color is red, white and blue. She has a straight line that’s blue on the left and right side of her body. The line next to that is red on both sides. The rest of her body is white.
My
monster’s name is Jack in the Box. What I mean by Jack in the Box is
his name is Jack and he is in a box. Get it? Jack in the Box. I am going to tell you what he looks like. He has a round
head. The color of his head is violet. He has three eyes in the middle
of his head. He does not have a nose. He has two teeth on the top side
of his mouth. He has two more teeth at the bottom sides of his mouth. He
does not have any teeth in the front of his mouth. He has a sideways is
the color blue. His collar [like Dracula’s collar] is where ears are
supposed to be. The color of his collar is dark, dark, brown. And now
back to his body. He has
two short arms on each side and one long arm in the middle, then two
more short arms after the long arm. That’s also what it looks like on
the other side. In the middle of his rectangular body, there is a circle
with a triangle in the middle front of it for a nose. It has circles for
eyes. It has a smiling face. On the front of Jack’s rectangular body
it says Jack in the Box. The color of the writing is the color purple.
Jack in the Box has six legs. Well, I hope you can draw this monster!

My monster’s name is Spiky. He has spikes all the way around on the outside of his body. His spikes are red and blue. He has red and blue lines under the spikes. The body is shaped like a ghost with no arms or legs. Under his spikes he is smiling stick style. The right hand side of his smile has is spiky. His eye is half blue and half red. There are spikes around it.
His name is Minnie Pea. He
has a small purple circle shaped head. His body is his head.
He has small brown legs with little blue shoes.
He has two blue arms that are sticking sideways from his body.
He has eleven eyes in all. He has six eyes on his forehead, two
eyes on his face under his six eyes, and three eyes on the top of his
head. His eyes are circles with gray triangles inside.
He has eight orange pointy teeth.
He has short spiky brown hair. He is wearing a small black cape
that looks like Dracula.
My monster’s name is Flame Boy. He has 6 black flames on his head. He is a rectangle. He is red. He has big ears near the top of his head. His arms have flames on them. The flames are black. His eyes are black circles. His mouth is big and black.
My monster’s name is L-I Pea. He is a big green
circle. He has five lower case cursive L`s on his head. He has 2 lower
case i's for eyes with circles around them and they are black (almond
shape at the top of the eyes with the dot in it). He has an equilateral
triangle nose and a big red smiley face. He also has small purple arms
with mussels. Then he has oval blue shoes with four small vertical lines
at each heal. GOOD LUCK!!!!
My monster’s name is Dark Clark. His body is shaped like a green and white boomerang. The center point of the boomerang is going down between his legs. He has two skinny legs. The leg on the right is purple and the one on the left is green. He has feet on the bottom of each leg. He has one eye on each point of the boomerang. One round eye on the right is black and white and the eye on the left is all black. One eye is on top of his two antennas. His body is green and white. By his antennas is his Mohawk. It is white.
My monster’s name is Nine-Eyed Pea. I used marker. It has a 3½ by 4 inch oval face. His face is orange. He has no body. He has red arms with small orange balls at the ends. Each arm is about 2 inches long. He has 11 yellow hairs on the top of his head about 3-3 ½ inches long with small orange balls on top. His hairs are squiggly. He has 13 blue stick legs about 3 inches long on the bottom of his body with small brown feet about a half a centimeter long on each leg. He has 6 purple spikes between his arms, legs, and hairs. It is not between each arm, leg, or hair just between the bunches of arm, leg, and hair. He has a mouth 1¾ inches long and 1 inch tall. It is an oval mouth. The mouth has small pointy teeth that are rounded on the ends. There are 8 teeth on the bottom of his mouth and 9 teeth on the top of his mouth. The teeth are yellow. The mouth has a small red line down the middle and the rest of his mouth’s back is blue. He has nine eyes. Its eyes are solid brown. Each eye is a circle. The line of eyes is in the shape of a half circle. Between each eye is a small green line. On the top and bottom of the eye line is a long green line. Everywhere else on his head is solid orange. I hope you have a fun time drawing the monster.
My
monster’s name is Evil Minion and it has 39 flames on its head. Its
body is shaped like a snowman. Its
got a nose like a human’s nose and it’s got flames on it. Its got 2
fangs and a tongue like a snake. It
has a vest with six pockets and three on each side.
It has oval eyes and rectangles in the eyes with a black dot in
its eyes. Its got arms like a human with spikes as fingers, and x’s
in its body. His vest is green, and the flames are red, orange, and
yellow. The tongue is red. Its body is white, and the teeth have light red at the bottom
of them.
My
monster’s name is the Glob of Fire. My monster is a big swirly glob.
He has a long neck. It is facing west. It has flames at the bottom of
the body. The colors of the
flames are red. The body color is yellow. He has one eye. He does not
have a mouth. He is leaving a light track of goo following him.

My monster’s name is Slimy. He has a head the shape of the grim reapers staff and the point goes right. His head is green. His eyes are on two antennas and he has two eyes. His antennas are brown. He has four hairs that stream down on the back of his head. One hair is red, one hair is blue, one hair is purple, and hair is orange. At the bottom of all the hairs is a brown circle.
My monster’s name is Goose Head. She has yellow skin and one red ear on the right side of her body. She has a head the shape of a circle that is yellow. She has brown hair on her circle head. Her mouth is the shape of two W’s that are connected together. She has an extra goose head on top of her head. It has a long neck connected to the regular head. The regular head has three eyes that look bloodshot. She has one tear in her left eye. The goose head has one purple eye. Her goose head has a long orange tongue. The extra goose head tongue is catching a black fly.
My monster’s name is Dark Mark. He looks like a regular human being except he is an alien. He has black and blue jeans with little spikes on the jeans. His skin is blue. He has an oval sideways head. His head is blue. He has red teeth and a brown sideways hat. He is wearing orange shoes. He also has three arms. He has flaming eyebrows. He also has pointy ears and a green shirt a white belt.
My monster's name is Hot-Head. He looks like a fireball that it a diagonal down and facing east. On the first four lines starting from the outisde he is read, orange, red, and orange. Inside of his body the colors in order are red, orange, and yellow. He is smiling with his mouth closed. His eye looks like an olive and there is a white spot in the middle. Over his eye is an eyebrow which is a line.
My monster’s name is Boom! He has an orange circle head with two circle eyes. The one on the left is blue and the other is pink. His pupils are black and are looking down. On top of his head is a blue volcano that’s exploding and steaming with magma running down. The tip of the volcano is yellow. He has gray sideburns and a white nose. He has a white circle mouth with 4 white fangs on every side. He has tiny freckles that are gray on his face. He has a yellow circle body. He also has a red circle in the middle of his body with a heart inside. He has a belly button at the bottom of his body. He has two pink steaming volcanoes for arms and their tips are yellow. He also has pink spikes at the bottom of his body. He has a blue eyebrow above his pink eye and pink eyebrow above his blue eye. The shape is a diagonal line that makes him look mean. That is Boom!
My monster’s name is Robot. He has 2 purple legs and tail. His head is his body. He has three yellow hands on each side of his head. His feet and his tail are at the bottom of his head. He has bluish purple hair that looks like a squiggle. He has an antenna with a red flash on top. There are lines coming out of the top of his antenna. His eyes are blue and are circles. His mouth is a red circle.
My monster’s name is Rock Dude. He has a purple rectangular body shape. The rectangle body goes to the side. Connected to the rectangle body he has a circle head in the middle. He has 3 eyes in the middle of the circle. In the middle of the eyes he has 2 little blue lines in each line. Above the circle he has green spiky hair. He has 7 red crying drips coming from his eyes. His mouth looks like your mouth only he has teeth above the mouth that are spiky. His teeth in his mouth are orange and black squares and they orange, black, orange, black, orange, black, orange, and black. His spiky teeth on the bottom are blue and red. They are blue, red, blue, red, blue, red, blue, red, and blue. On the top of his mouth his teeth are red, blue, red, blue, red, and the others are black, yellow, and brown. Hint the two green feet are on the outside of his body at the bottom of the rectangle. There are 3 brown arms connected to the rectangle body. But there are 3 brown arms on each side of his body. His nose looks like your nose but the color is yellow. The outline of the spiky hair is drawn with a marker and is green. That is my monster. Can you draw it?
My
monster’s name is Freckle. He
has a pear shaped body. He
is green with green spots on his body. He has one big eye.
His eye has a line in the middle. The top half is red and the
bottom half is green with another circle inside it.
In the middle of the green half there is a black circle in the
green circle. The arms are
red and they look like chicken wings. They are on each side of the pear
shaped body. His legs look like little rectangles. They are red on the top
half and green on the bottom half. He has 7 pieces of red hair that look
like spaghetti strings.
Her name is Anna. Her head is shaped like a dog’s head. Her head is where you can only see one of her eyes. Anna has an aqua green and a light blue head. Her neck goes out a little bit then down. Her body is aqua green. Her head to tail is about 9.5 centimeters long and 4 inches tall. She has red lips, blue nose, and a white eye. Her tail goes down then up then straight down. She has scales that stick up on her back and they are red. She has really sharp claws. Find a way to draw Anna. Have a fun time too.
My monster’s name is
Peggy the Peg Leg Pirate.
He has an oval body with green skin and a blue shirt with red buttons.
He’s got long Rapunzel like hair only it’s black. He has a round
head. The only thing keeping his mouth open is four red teeth. He has
two teeth on his left side and two teeth on his right side. He has one
eye because like most great pirates they have an eye patch on their left
eye. He’s got a round
blue nose. Peggy has a red bandana on his head. The last thing is the
reason he is called Peggy the peg leg pirate.
Peggy has two brown peg legs.
His name is Hops. His body is round he has four legs. He has two big purple eyes. He has a red tongue sticking out. He has a squiggly tail that one of his back legs is under. He is green and his tail is light green. He has four red toenails on each foot. He is jumping like a frog. He has two legs in the front and two in the back. His red toenails are sticking out. His tongue is squiggly.
My
monster’s name is Fat Head. He has a 6 inch circle head. It is red. He
has two circle eyes in the normal place where human eyes would go. His
ears are circles too. All circles are sky blue. He has triangle shape
hairs that start at one ear and go to the next. They are aqua green.
He has a triangle nose. It
is magma colored. Then he
has a big smile. It is mahogany. He
has a pink t-shirt where a normal t-shirt would go.
He has pink pants where pants would go.

My monster’s name is Rainbow King. He
has a round green head. He also has a brown triangular nose. His mouth
is shut and is squiggly and red. His body is orange and is 6 inches long
and is 4½ inches wide. His body is wavy. He has 5 eyeballs on his head,
3 of those are on his forehead facing down, and 2 more eyeballs are on
his antennas connected to his head. The eyeballs are white inside.
His arms are pointing out and are blue.
My monster’s name is Smogg. He looks like a dragon. He has an eight-inch long body and connected to his body is a 3½inch neck and a 3½ tail that is curled with a heart shape at the end of his tail. He has a triangle head whose corners were cut off and smoothed out. He has 4¾ inch legs with 3 claws in the front and one claw on the back up 2 millimeters. On his head he has two cat like eyes with cat like pupils in them. They are red. He has two nostrils that are half a circle with one dot in royal blue, orchid (purple), orange and red all over his body. He has three horns on his head. He has two wings that look like up side-down water. GOOD LUCK!
My monster’s name is Rainbow –Human-Pig. He comes from the planet Jupiter. His head is oval and he has curls on top of his head and eyes. On them they are all light blue and in the middle of his head there are glasses. In her eyes there are dog bones in them. He has a snout and mud dripping down from the snout. He has three freckles on each side of his head. His body shape is a rectangle. He has 2 red arms on each side on his rectangular body. They are in the middle of his body. His shirt color is green blue, red and orange and a yellow sun on it too. He has 4 legs that are red too. It has regular teeth with fangs and spit coming out. Good luck!
My monster’s name is the Mean Dog. He has a brown oval head. He has red eyes and he has blue hanging dog ears, three on each side. He has 9 pimples all over his face, and 4 marks, two on one side and two on the other. He has two fangs sticking up and two sticking down. The ends have red on all four and three little teeth that are gray. He has a tan shirt and a purple color. His shirt says “Dog Eater” and the words are highlighted in red and he has a bright banana in his right hand. His pimples are red and he has purple cut hair. Last, he has purple eyebrows.
My monster’s name is Spike. Her head is round and purple. Her nose is round and green. Spike’s eyes are triangles and are yellow. She has yellow teeth that are triangles and there are eight of them. They are kind of going down. She has orange hair with brown beads at the bottom of all eight of her hair. There are four hairs on each side of her head. She has antennas that go up on top of her head. There are four in all. She has five blue legs in all that are squiggles. She has 5 shoes they are circles. Good luck!
I named my monster Potato Monster. It has an oval body. His body is up the tall way. The body is its head. It has 27 hairs on the top of its head. The hairs are orange. There are oval eyes with triangles inside the eyes. He has a mouth with green teeth shaped like triangles. Its body color is brown. He has oval feet and they are gray.
My monster’s name is Humpty Dumpy Fat and Fuzzy. He
is an oval shape that is orange. He
has big feet with oval 3½ cm shoes on them. The
color of his shoes is brown. His head is his body. His mouth is off to
the side of his eyes and down a little. Up above his shoes is a red
rainbow that is connecting one shoe to another. His arms are1/2 wide and
2½ inches long. At the end of his arms are Mickey Mouse gloves that
have three lines on them. His
arms are connected to his body. On his head he has a leprechaun hat and
the hat has one green sideways stripe. On the stripe is a gold buckle.
Off of his hat is light blue hair. He has one eye that is halfway closed
like an eyelid. The lid is
purple and his eye is looking down.
His pupil is blue and the inside of his eye is black.
