Student-Led Dance Mat Vending Business 2005-2006 |
|
|
We have a student-managed fitness program that serves our school. Students in 4th and 5th grade have provided 10-15 bursts of physical activity in the form of a dance video game for two years. They mentor their peers and manage all aspects of the program. The video game also helps students with visual tracking and patterning crucial to reading success. It takes no teacher time, and adds enormous benefits to the learning environment. Students learn to integrate technology not only with the dance game but through the websites they create. They want to teach other students across the country how to add all types of good exercise and skills to school. They also learn about the music in the dance game, thus becoming more aware of the music their families (diverse cultures) enjoy. At recess and lunch the students manage a business that sells dance time and all proceeds are donated to the school for more dance mats, so more students can mentor, become fit and do service learning. Everyone wins with our business! |
