JASON Project "Mysteries of Earth and Mars" Lesson 3.2 January 2006 |
|
|
Students learned about "extremeophiles" by conducting a JASON Project experiment to see if yeast culture would grow in extreme environments. Student groups has three bottles each. Solution 1 contained the extreme environment for that condition, solution 2 was a milder solution, and for each group solution 3 was tap water. Students added yeast and sugar to the mixture in the chart (below) then put a balloon on top of the bottle and observed what happened every 5 minutes for 20 minutes. Students measured the circumference of the balloon and drew conclusions about what was happening. JASON Mysteries of Earth and Mars Student Argonaut, Hillary (my daughter), taught the lesson.
