January 2007
Here are some student created healthy cartoons to encourage good eating and exercise habits. Our class enjoyed a visit from the "Get Out of My Face" Team members Neil, Skyler, Austin and Ian. Skyler shared a story about a green tea beverage he thought was healthful because it said, 100% natural" on the label. Later Skyler learned that the drink had high fructose corn syrup (HFCS) as the second ingredient. That means there was a lot of HFCS in the drink. Skyler shared a PowerPoint with the students so they could understand the health dangers of HFCS. Next, Neil showed his very funny "Make Healthy Choices or THE SQUIRREL Will Get You" commercial. Our students loved the squirrel and the message. We were inspired to make some projects of our own for our collection. Since our class had won an Oregon Dairy Grant for healthy eating and active lifestyles, we knew a lot about what smart choices are all about. Here is a press release about the grant. We created some great cartoons. Take a look at our creations |

by Emily This cartoon is a short tale about a smart carrot who thinks the stew pot is a hot tub. The smart blueberries won't go in at first - they are scared of the stew pot. Then they realize that the carrot is going to get to live in a healthy stomach - YES! They eagerly join the crafty carrot. |
by Sara A superhero named AppleMan saves the unsuspecting Green guy from eating a pile of suger - blah!!!! That would have been gross. The message is: "Eat an apple not sugar!!!" |
by Elliott This apple girl was so excited to be in a sugary pie until she discovered that a pie apple gets cooked in hot boiling water - oh no! She decides to be healthy applesauce instead. |
